The Rise of a Hollywood Star in Salma Hayek



The 1995 film Desperado has paved the way for this beautiful Mexican actress, Salma Hayek to be one of the sought after actresses in Hollywood today. The gorgeous and sexy celebrity from Mexico is considered to be the first Mexican star ever graced the Hollywood screens.

With her dark beauty looks and exuding personality this Mexican beauty has truly made her mark in the entertainment industry. She started her career as a star in the movie Dolores del Rio until she had taken the consequences of going to L.A to seek a much greener pasture. Her career move proved her success and became the most in demand actresses Hollywood has ever had.

Salma Hayek comes from a devout catholic family in Coatzacoalcos Veracruz, Mexico. She attended a school in Louisiana when she was 12 and was later on removed from the boarding school due to delinquent behavior. Salma then went to her aunt in Houston Texas where she stayed until she reached her teenage years. She decided to go back to her hometown and opted to study International Relations however, to the disappointment of her family Salma chose to pursue a career in acting and that’s when history unfolds.

She started in minor theatrical appearances until she was discovered. Her excellent acting abilities gave her the lead role for the soap opera Teresa. The major success of the drama was because of the acting prowess of this Mexican star making her the star she is today. The soap opera Teresa made waves in Mexican television which gained Salma Hayek thousands of followers. However, she shocked the Salma Hayek’s fanatic when she decided to leave the show that made her a big star and take the risk of moving to L.A for greater opportunities.

And history speaks for itself; Hayek’s decision to move to L.A didn’t bring disappointment to her acting career as she found her way a slot as a supporting role in the 1993 film Mi Vida Loca which gave the ticket of gaining a Screen Actors Guild Card. Salma Hayek as persistent as she was pursued in learning the English language and continued auditioning for several acting roles. During an appearance in a Spanish Talk show, she was spotted by director Robert Rodriguez giving her a role in the movie Desperado. With Hayek showing what she was truly made of strut her way to the sequel El Mariachi together with Antonio Banderas. Director Rodriguez showed his confidence and trust for the Mexican actress and cast her in his project in 1996, From Dusk Till Dawn.

Nevertheless, being in the entertainment industry is not all about glitz and glamour. There were still drawbacks especially for the beautiful Salma Hayek as some of her films didn’t get much applause for the viewing public. But then again Hayek made her recovery in the 2002 movie in her role Frida as she convincingly portrayed the role in good nature. Her good portrayal earned a lot of praises and gave her a Golden Globe nomination.
